Success is bittersweet

So I got a doe on Saturday afternoon. First deer ever taken with my bow. It was very nice. Sunday morning I took a shot at another doe, but hit a sapling instead! (It was still kind of dark.) Still it was a successful weekend. Killing a deer is always bittersweet. On one hand the hunt was successful and there will be venison in the freezer for another year. Yet the deer had to be killed. It gave its love to sustain other's lives.

That being said I hope to be in a stand again come Saturday!

First deer hunt of the year

Tomorrow is the first time I will get a chance to deer hunt this season. I am so excited. I am preparing by washing my hunting clothes in scent blocker, gathering my equipment. But most importantly, visualizing the hunt. How I'll draw my bow, how I'll aim. All of that.

I have never taken a deer with a bow so I am hoping tomorrow is the day that happens. I'll be hunting both Saturday and Sunday, so I am hoping I'll get lucky and get a shot on a doe or buck. I hunt for meat and the freezer is getting low, so I am needing to be successful in order to replenish my supply of venison.

I will post here about the hunt and about what happens.
