Ann and Nancy Wilson are Idiots

I used to heart Heart. That's right, as a child of the 80s I grew up listening to songs like "What About Love", "These Dreams", and "Alone".

During the presidential campaign in 2008, I heard a blurb in the news about Heart not wanting McCain and Palin to use their song "Barracuda" at campaign stops when Sarah "Barracuda" Palin was introduced. Since there were a million other things related to the campaign going on I didn't pay much attention to it.

Click here: Heart Wants McCain/Palin To Stop Using Barracuda

Last night I watched "Behind The Music Remastered: Heart", I had DVR'd this the other night from VH1. The show was going along well, I was enjoying it because, as I said, I have always been a fan of Heart and the music they've produced.

Then near the end that had a short segment on the McCain/Palin stuff and how outraged Ann and Nancy Wilson were that their song had beed used for Palin. Nancy was quoted as saying as soon as she heard it she was on phone screaming: "THEY CAN'T DO THAT! QUIT USING OUR SONG!"

My immediate thought was to wonder if Obama/Biden had used a Heart song would Ann and Nancy be outraged? I seriously doubt they would have been since they are admitted Democrats.

So let's set this up: A female Republican vice presidential candidate is breaking new ground in an election. Meantime, an all male ticket is running on the Democratic side. Two women that made their way by breaking ground in a male-dominated industry would rather support two socialist males based on ideology, than to support a fellow woman in her historic, ground-breaking candidacy.

Here was Ann and Nancy Wilson's official statement:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”
Hmmm, seems lots of parallels could be drawn between Ann and Nancy's struggle in the male-dominated rock music industry with what Palin has faced in the male-dominated world of politics.

So much for sisterhood. Yet if Palin was a Democrat, pro-abortion, pro-drug legalization, pro-bra burning, pro-socialist, pro-gay rights, anti-hunting, anti-meat eating, Communist dumb broad, not only would Ann and Nancy gladly let her use their song, but would have showed up at campaign stops to play it live.

Instead, since Palin is none of those things, but is instead a confident, principled, proud, real woman that has made her way in a male-dominated political landscape, Ann and Nancy throw their support behind the most liberal presidential candidate in the history of our country. As well as his idiotic, outrageous-quote-a-minute running-mate.

So Ann and Nancy, not only do you get the Steven's World "You're An Idiot" award, but you also will never see another red cent of this writer's money. Ever again. No matter how many more CDs and DVDs you produce. Come to my town, I am not buying a concert ticket. In fact, this Behind The Music will be the last time I willingly listen to your music, or watch anything you are associated with.

Goodbye to you.......

Use their music, as a Republican, and they'll go crazy on you.

You have a right to your opinion, and so do Ann and Nancy. If a politician that you didn't like wanted to use a song you wrote, would you let them? Just because they have different political views than you doesn't mean they are bad people. And as far as Palin facing the male dominated political landscape. Give me a break. Palin was welcomed with open arms by the republicans. You should respect their choice to do what they want with their music and how it's represented.

Ronnie D, you're right. They have a right to decide how their music gets used. I, on the other hand, get to decide how I spend my hard earned dollar. Ann and Nancy will never see another penny of my money.

I find it very interesting how these people (meaning wealthy celebrities) who have benefited from capitalism now want socialism...I guess they made their money and can afford to pay through nose and still take their vacations and send their kids (Ann) to the best schools and set them up for life....hypocrites who,in my opinion, are not all that intelligent. Take a look at Europe and Canada being crushed by socialism...I love and grew up on their music....I really wish celebs would keep their traps shut when it comes to politics...

So I guess you would be fine with President Obama using your intellectual property to further his political agenda huh? Sarah Palin is mentally unstable and I would be angry to learn she wiped her feet on my doormat. You are just pissed that your former idols do not share your political leanings. Pity about that. For you, anyhow.

I don't blame Ann and Nancy Wilson one bit for not wanting their song associated with Sarah Palin. The woman is an idiot, she never even got permission to use the song, and Nancy and Ann don't agree with her politics. What other reasons do you need?

Anyone debasing S.Palin is a useful idiot of the left. Go drink some more kool-aid, you mindless nabobs. Because the liberal media spoon fed your infantile minds with propaganda, you go goose stepping along lockstep with the party line. You wage slave losers arent fit to clean her stylish glasses. You women are plainly intimidated by her beauty, and capabilities, and could only wish you could achieve half of what she has. She is intelligent ,beautiful, insightful, hardworking and charming. All things you left wing hate spewing, salivating nonentities will never be! You hate S.P. because you were told to. Its that simple. Now go pay your taxes for your melotto furher.

I can't believe that anyone could denigrate these two beautiful women. They are in charge of their lives and able to dictate who and who cannot use their music.

People who resort to petty name calling should look to the bitterness in their own heart.

I am sure glad I live in Canada. Being left and having money gives one the ability to help others: people who have been downtrodden by The sarah Palin's of America.

Huh? Karina that was a wandering mess of unintelligible babbling. But thanks for reading!

No need for outrage or concern.

I was raised on their music also but am not a "fan". I think Ann's a great singer and the two sisters are extremely talented. I'm an artist also, and I've discovered people in the past who've taken my pics without asking and have posted them elsewhere. It's theft- simple as that. If somebody takes something without asking the owner- it's theft. It's also disrespectful! So, I can understand why the sister would be upset that somebody simply "took" their song and used it without having the decency to ask first. I would have been angry as well. Palin and her camp should have known better. The Wilson sisters were well within their rights to voice their displeasure. Palin should have been fined, because she's sending a message that it's "alright to steal". Not ok.

I could see if Palin and the McCain campaign had some how been profiting from the song that your "theft" angle might work. Merely playing it in public is not theft. Otherwise wedding DJ's are the biggest thieves on the planet.

Further, your picture analogy further proves that you don't have a clue what theft is. When you are in public, as court after court has ruled, your image is subject to being photographed. That is why the paparazzi is legal.

Not my music, not my politics. I am not romantically attached to any of those three women, so my dog isn't in the fight. But seriously, isn't there anything more pressing to discuss?

Anything not copy written or trademarked is fair play

Moody Blue said...

You, sir, seem to be the one "without a clue".
As a matter of law, it is theft to publicly play any copy written song without paying the artist the due royalties. Your wedding DJ analogy has no bearing because they do, indeed, have to purchase a license to use the music. Royalties are paid to the artists from the funds obtained through those licenses. The same goes for department stores, dance studios, etc. Anyone publicly playing music must purchase a license to do so. So, Sarah Palin was commuting theft and Ann and Nancy Wilson were well within their rights to demand she cease a desist immediately.
As for your boycott of them and their music, I'm certain that given their economic position, they won't miss your one red cent a bit. They aren't up in arms angry about it. You, therefore, are only harming yourself with your bitterness.

LoneWolfArcher said...

The Wilsons suck, I am not hurting myself at all. Further, I wasn't speaking specifically about licensing issues as much as they'll sell out to product commercial, and then get upset about Palin using the song. Seems hypocritical.

Also, while you are right, the artist rarely owns the rights to their music. Palin very well could have acquired the necessary license to use the song, and the Wilsons couldn't do anything about it legally, so they went public with their displeasure. Happens all the time.
